General Writing Board

About GWB

The GWB was established in response to the lack of a national independent, modern and specialised scientific body which, in times of intensified interest in the field of handwriting analysis resulting in the existence of pseudo-specialists on the market, would serve as an expert and certifying body for both state institutions and legal and natural persons.

The mission of the General Writing Board is to provide expert services, to work for the development of the field of handwriting examination in the country, to educate, shape and supervise standards of professional handwriting examination.

Accordingly, the profile of GWB’s activities is divided into departments:

providing an opinion

Preparing expert opinions, checking the correctness of the content of opinions issued - meta-expertises - to decide which opinion is correct.

systemic

Formation of expert qualification standards, principles of exercising the profession and providing opinions, supervision of the substantive correctness of opinions.

educational

semination of correct knowledge of the field, organisation of training, scientific publications.

scientific

Conducting research.

We are proud to emphasise that in handwriting studies and the process of providing opinions we base on all directions of the field’s development and research capabilities, which reflects the fact that we carry out handwriting studies in forensic (authenticity, uniformity), psychological (personality analyses) and clinical (neurographology; examination of pathological handwriting, of ill persons, after traumas; examination of the psychophysical state at the moment of writing).

Testsin each of these areas are carried out for both original and copy documents and on tablet devices. Forensic examinationsare supplemented by linguistic analyses (forensic linguistics).

We draw on the knowledge of such centres as The British Institute of Graphologist, The British Academy of Graphology, International Forensic Science, American Board of Forensic Document Examiners and Canadian College Kineseography, translating the knowledge gained into the Polish market and thus promoting its development within the given field of science.

The GWB brings together only experts, Polish and foreign handwriting specialists, whose actual competence consists of:

  • higher education in the following fields: law, forensic science, criminology, psychology, linguistics (there are no persons among the GWBs whose university education does not relate to any of the above-mentioned fields, which ensures expert quality of work);
  • up-to-date handwriting certificates of recognised, mostly foreign, certifying bodies (as evidence of up-to-date knowledge in one of the directions of handwriting examination: forensic, psychological, clinical, thus guaranteeing a comprehensive opinion by a team of specialists);
  • knowledge of contemporary research capabilities (ensuring that research is carried out in parallel with scientific developments and not according to the capabilities of decades ago);
  • full professional practice (the GWB team consists of experts who deal with a given field on a daily basis and not on a casual basis or after hours, which reflects into the team’s availability and timely completion of assignments);
  • continuous participation in thematic conferences (in order to disseminate correct scribal knowledge and to develop oneself);
  • regular updating of qualifications (ensuring familiarity with up-to-date research solutions and meeting this requirement when renewing the term of office of the expert).

Each year, the supervisory department evaluates experts and GWB members to maintain these standards.

The expert opinions prepared by the General Writing Board are both team-based (e.g. combining forensic and clinical examinations or forensic and linguistic examinations) and individual, which are approved by a supervisor. This ensures that the problem is resolved by the group and that the quality of the opinion and its compliance with the proceedings is supervised.

Delivery times are 1-3 months and payment is made under the invoice. GWB is a legal entity with a third party insurance policy and a registered office, which makes us a stable and reliable entity.

The structure of GWB is based on: management, members – experts, administration. The tasks assumed in the mission are performed in the following departments: consultative, educational, research, systemic, as well as for the functioning of the entity: supervisory and administrative.
